[Tasting Table] 11 Historic Bourbon Labels Revived By Modern Brands

In case you haven’t noticed, bourbon is everywhere — from bars, restaurants, and tasting rooms, to dinner parties, home bars, and liquor store shelves, so long as they can keep it in stock. Some call it a “bourbon boom” or the “bourbon surge.” However, terms like surge might suggest the increase in bourbon sales will eventually come back down. Although that is indeed possible, it’s tough to predict, and as of now bourbon still remains wildly popular and in demand.

It may have been the cocktail revival and shows like “Mad Men” that brought bourbon and classic drinks like the old fashioned back to life, or the entrance of new small-batch and single-barrel bourbons from distilleries that piqued everyone’s interest in bourbon whiskey, its history, and how it’s made. However the boom occurred, one of the greatest benefits of our rekindled love for bourbon is how it’s helped to revive old labels that were once forgotten. Bourbon has been in America since the land was settled in the 1700s. It’s a deep-rooted history, and seeing old historic labels come to life again is nostalgic and exciting for collectors and newbies alike.

  • [Uproxx] The Absolute Best Under-The-Radar Bourbons That Deserve More Hype

Finding the most underrated bourbon (or anything for that matter) is a difficult task. What is even the litmus test for what is or isn’t underrated? Is it awards or lack thereof? Price? Distribution? Social media hype? Is it simply the quality versus the exposure? Can you even find it? Point being, calling anything “underrated” gets pretty subjective. What isn’t quite as hard to define are under-the-radar bourbons that I think deserve more hype.

  • [The Whiskey Wash] Whiskey Review: Kentucky Senator John G. Carlisle

Summary: An ideal sipper. There’s a lot going on here, but this isn’t a “busy” pour at all. In fact, it proceeds at an almost leisurely pace. The light rye spice and firm oak backbone combines with a buttery/creamy mouthfeel for a really well-textured experience on the palate that shows its maturity as the spice fades and clears space for flavors on the earthy/tannic side of the spectrum. If Regard and Thayer hold to their now established plan, look forward to checking back in with this mash bill in the next two years as well!

  • [UPROXX] The Absolute Best Whiskeys We Tasted At This Year’s Bourbon & Beyond Festival

Whiskey and music collided last weekend in Louisville, Kentucky, during the triumphant return of The Bourbon & Beyond Festival. The festival is one of the biggest in the Ohio Valley, covering four days of whiskey tastings, whiskey panels, podcasts, food shows, and, yes, rock ‘n roll (with a little country thrown in for good measure). While the overall fest was a blast, I was there to focus on the whiskey, and I got to try some stellar pours.

  • [Whiskey Consensus] Kentucky Senator Release 3 John Griffin Carlisle 7 Year Bourbon Review

With the same mash bill as Release 2, Kentucky Senator Release 3 in many ways reminds me of that previous batch. This Bourbon opens up on the palate with a surprising amount of heat and noticeable amounts of oak and rye spice. The mouthfeel is pleasant and coats the mouth through to an enjoyable medium-long finish. Kentucky Senator Release 3 has many classic bourbon notes that I feel most would enjoy. The only thing that might be off-putting to some is the $120 price tag for a 7-year Bourbon.
