  • [Uproxx] The Absolute Best Whiskeys We Tasted At This Year’s Bourbon & Beyond Festival

Whiskey and music collided last weekend in Louisville, Kentucky, during the triumphant return of The Bourbon & Beyond Festival. The festival is one of the biggest in the Ohio Valley, covering four days of whiskey tastings, whiskey panels, podcasts, food shows, and, yes, rock ‘n roll (with a little country thrown in for good measure). While the overall fest was a blast, I was there to focus on the whiskey, and I got to try some stellar pours.

  • [Whiskey Consensus] Kentucky Senator Release 3 John Griffin Carlisle 7 Year Bourbon Review

With the same mash bill as Release 2, Kentucky Senator Release 3 in many ways reminds me of that previous batch. This Bourbon opens up on the palate with a surprising amount of heat and noticeable amounts of oak and rye spice. The mouthfeel is pleasant and coats the mouth through to an enjoyable medium-long finish. Kentucky Senator Release 3 has many classic bourbon notes that I feel most would enjoy. The only thing that might be off-putting to some is the $120 price tag for a 7-year Bourbon.

  • GSN Review: Kentucky Senator John G. Carlisle Bourbon

Lightly sweet, but with a pop of rye spice, this bourbon fits the mash bill. (Little humor there). Really smooth, but with a nice bite from the oak aging, this is a wood forward bourbon. Notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, tobacco leaf, brown bread and dried apple mingle together, creating a melange of autumnal flavors. An elegant mouthfeel, this is a wonderful sipper, even at the higher than bottled-in-bond proof. But, add some water or a rock or two to bring the heat down, and it calms into a smooth and friendly libation. This is a great release to seek out for bourbon aficionados. Grab a bottle while you can! GSN Rating: A
