LEXINGTON, KY — Kentucky Senator is proud to announce that its John Brown Release has been awarded a Double Gold Medal at the 2025 San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC) — one of the most prestigious and influential spirits competitions in the world. The accolade solidifies Kentucky Senator Bourbon’s reputation for crafting exceptional, small-batch whiskey that stands out in today’s competitive spirits landscape.
Judges at the SFWSC praised the John Brown Release for its bold and refined profile, awarding it an impressive score of 98 out of 100. This marks a significant achievement for the brand, as Double Gold is reserved for spirits that receive unanimous gold medal ratings from all judges. The John Brown Release joins a select group of award-winning bourbons recognized for their depth, complexity and craftsmanship.
In an era where discerning consumers value quality over quantity, the John Brown Release continues to demonstrate why premium Bourbon is worth the investment. This limited-edition offering, named for Kentucky’s first U.S. Senator, delivers a rich tapestry of flavors that leave a lasting impression.
The SFWSC Judging Panel described the whiskey with the following: “Big, bold aromas of vanilla custard, cherry syrup, and caramel on the nose. The palate features maple candy, almond praline, wood spice, and chocolate. The finish is long and sweet, with lingering candied orange zest, caramel, and spice notes.”
In addition to this award, the John Brown Release has also been nominated as a finalist for Best Aged Small Batch Bourbon. This distinction is reserved for the finest small-batch bourbons aged 6 to 10 years and will be awarded at the Top Shelf 2025 Awards Gala in San Francisco this November.
“This Double Gold is a huge honor,” said co-founder Andre Regard. “To be recognized among the world’s top Bourbons is a testament to our craftsmanship and hard work. We know Bourbon lovers have options, so we are thrilled to have John Brown recognized as one of the best.”
The John Brown Release is the fifth bottling in Kentucky Senator Bourbon’s ongoing series, which celebrates notable statesmen from the Bluegrass State. Bottled at 107 proof with a mash bill of 75% corn, 21% rye, and 4% malted barley, this small-batch Bourbon offers a robust, well-balanced experience that both aficionados and newcomers will appreciate.
“This isn’t just any Bourbon,” said co-founder Damon Thayer. “Our mission is to blend Kentucky’s rich history with the enduring taste that Bourbon enthusiasts seek. John Brown was Kentucky’s first U.S. Senator, and this release is a toast to his bold and unforgettable legacy.”
Kentucky Senator Bourbon remains committed to producing small-batch whiskeys that uphold tradition while appealing to a modern palate. The John Brown Release is available at select retailers and online, with a suggested retail price of $149.99.
